The Wave of Slate-Signing swept through town in October creating lots of interest. Participants of all ages signed a total of 225 slates. The slates, with more than 500 names, are now installed on the roof of the Houghton Memorial Building. In the wake of the event, the Society is preparing a Commemorative book about the Houghton Memorial Building that will include all the names written on the new slates.
The Society is also pleased that the project generated almost $3,000 for a fund to repair water damage and repaint the interior – expenses that were not included in the cost of replacing the roof.
Thank you to everyone who participated in the project. Thanks for the support given to preserve the building, and the thoughtful consideration given to signing slate that will remain on the building for the next 100 years or so.
