Porter Road was named for John Porter who served in the French and Indian War and the Revolutionary War. More histrionics than history, the back of the 1972 postcard reads, "Hooves thundered and wheels creaked as the stagecoach hurried over the old Porter Road bridge on its way from Acton to Groton."
